AIF was engaged to enhance the AML/CFT regime in Angola under a technical assistance project . The aim of the Project is to strengthen AML/CFT system in Angola in accordance with international standards and good practices as well as FATF recommendations. The project’s objective is to enhance the capacities of national entities to effectively fight the scourge of money laundering and terrorist financing in Angola, through the creation of a functioning FIU, the implementation of the good practices and international standards and a sound environment to provide the basis for international cooperation in the framework of the Egmont Group and FATF. In order to achieve this objective, the project addresses the control over economic and financial activities in Angola via provision of capacity building and the setting up of an effective anti-money laundering and terrorist financing operational system. On a similar track, legal and institutional anti money laundering frameworks will be upgraded to meet international standards.
On June 27, 2011, the African Innovation Foundation organized in Luanda, Angola, an awareness-raising workshop on Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism, with the objective of identifying the key money laundering and terrorism financing risks and threats, in the world and, specifically, in Angola. The workshop also aimed at identifying the vulnerabilities Angola faces with a view to determining priorities and setting out a framework to counter them. Finally, the workshop intended to raise awareness on AML/CFT obligations across all sectors and the general public. The conference brought together decision and policy makers, diplomats, international organizations and representatives of the national law enforcement and financial institutions.
